Composition
· Active Substance: Procaine Benzylpenicillin (Penicillin G Procaine)
Strength: 3,000,000 International Units (IU) per vial
· Form: Sterile powder in a 20 ml glass vial for reconstitution.
Indications
Treatment of bacterial infections in livestock (cattle, swine, sheep, goats) caused by penicillin-susceptible organisms, including:
· Streptococcal infections
· Pneumonia
· Mastitis
· Swine erysipelas
· Foot rot
· Skin and soft tissue infections
Contraindications
· ▲ Hypersensitivity to penicillins or procaine.
· ▲ Do not administer to horses, rabbits, guinea pigs, or hamsters (risk of fatal enterocolitis).
Dosage & Administration
· Reconstitution: Aseptically add 12–15 ml sterile Water for Injection to vial. Shake gently until clear suspension forms.
· Dosage:
· Cattle/Swine: 1 ml per 30 kg body weight (equivalent to 20,000 IU/kg).
· Sheep/Goats: 1 ml per 45 kg body weight (equivalent to 15,000 IU/kg).
· Route: Deep intramuscular injection only.
· Frequency: Once daily for 3–5 days.
Withdrawal Periods
· Meat: 10 days (cattle/swine/goats), 9 days (sheep).
· Milk: 72 hours (cows/goats).
Compliance is mandatory for food-producing animals.
Adverse Reactions
· Local swelling/pain at injection site.
· Anaphylaxis (rare; epinephrine must be available).
· Procaine toxicity (overdose: tremors, convulsions).
Storage
· Unreconstituted: Below 25°C. Protect from light.
Reconstituted: Use immediately. Discard unused suspension.
